Cronus Zen controller compatibility comes down to one rule with a few footnotes: officially licensed console controllers work, and everything else does not. First-party pads from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are the safe center; most licensed third-party controllers from brands like Razer, SCUF, Nacon, Hori, and PowerA are supported with documented exceptions; unlicensed pads and PC-only controllers are out entirely. The other half of the compatibility question is the authentication controller — on most consoles, one specific licensed controller must be present for the console to accept the Zen at all.
How compatibility works
The Zen sits between your controller and the console, reading the controller on one side and emulating a controller the console trusts on the other. That design creates two separate compatibility questions:
- Can the Zen read your controller? This covers the pad you actually hold — connected by USB to the A1/A2/A3 ports or paired over Bluetooth.
- Will the console accept the Zen? Modern consoles verify that a licensed controller is present. The Zen passes that check by using a real licensed controller for the security handshake — the authentication controller.

The practical consequence: even if you intend to play with a crossover controller (say, a DualSense on Xbox), you still need the platform's own licensed controller present. Wired vs Bluetooth
The Zen supports USB throughout and Bluetooth for a specific set of controllers. The tradeoffs are consistent enough to summarize:

Pairing is done by holding the Zen's P2 Bluetooth button until the LEDs flash blue, then triggering the controller's own pairing mode. If wireless pads refuse to stick, see Bluetooth pairing issues. Tip
Whatever the connection type, start sessions with a charged controller. Cronus's documentation repeats the charging caveat across platforms, and a controller dying mid-session looks identical to several genuine faults.
Controllers that do not work
The exclusions are as useful to know as the support list:
- Unlicensed controllers. No unlicensed pad can complete console authentication, and Cronus does not support them for input either.
- PC-only controllers. Pads designed exclusively for PC are ruled out by name in Cronus's documentation — the SCUF Envision Pro is the cited example.
- Flight sticks and Thrustmaster models. Listed as incompatible in the Xbox documentation.

How to check the current list
Compatibility lists shift with firmware releases on both sides, so the checking procedure outlasts any snapshot:
- Open Cronus's guide portal and find the supported-devices page for your console — each platform has its own controller table with USB and wireless columns.
- Check the controller-testing section of the documentation if your pad is not listed; Cronus documents a procedure for verifying detection.
