Where Cronus Zen errors appear
The same underlying problem can surface in three different places, and the wording differs by surface:

Fixing E3001 (and E3)
Cronus documents two recovery routes depending on how far gone the firmware is:
- Connect the Zen to your PC using the rear CONSOLE USB port, open the firmware update tool, and install the latest firmware. In many E3001 cases this works without any special mode.
- If the device is not found, use bootloader mode: press and hold the Zen's reset button, and while holding it, connect the CONSOLE USB cable. The OLED will display "Zen Bootloader". Hardware error states without codes
Two documented failures produce no code at all. A Zen whose OLED stays blank when connected by either rear port, with verified data cables, is classified by Cronus as defective and needs replacement or warranty service. Windows' "USB Device Not Recognized" popup, by contrast, is usually recoverable: Cronus attributes it to an underpowered USB port or driver issue and recommends another port or a powered hub.
